My Role:

As Lead Designer at Hanifa, I was responsible for developing the Brooklyn Jacket from concept to final execution. I patterned and sewed the muslin prototypes by hand, created detailed sketches and technical packs, and liaised directly with manufacturers to ensure precision in the final sample. When the jacket was selected for the Barbie collaboration, I oversaw its adaptation into miniature scale, ensuring the craftsmanship and spirit of the original runway piece were faithfully preserved.
This project was a milestone in visibility for Hanifa, merging the worlds of high fashion and childhood nostalgia. It demonstrated how Black designers could see their work recognized and reimagined on one of the most iconic cultural platforms in the world.
